Norton Introduces Resolution Designating Sept. 23 ‘Mary Church Terrell Day’

by WI Web Staff September 24, 2024September 24, 2024

D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton has introduced a resolution to designate September 23, 2024 as “Mary Church Terrell Day” in recognition of the late 19th century and early to mid-20th century civil and women’s rights activist’s contributions to the District.

On the 116th anniversary of the Springfield Race Riot, President Joe Biden signed a proclamation establishing the Springfield 1908 Race Riot National Monument in Springfield, Illinois, preserving 1.57 acres of federal land and highlighting a significant but painful moment in American history.
